RIIWHS204E - Work Safely at Heights

This unit explores the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights. It applies to those working in operational roles, who generally work under supervision while undertaking a range of functions with known routines and procedures. This ensures that they are able to take responsibility for the quality of their work outcomes.

You will learn how to assess risks associated with working at heights, use safety equipment such as harnesses, lanyards and rope access systems, properly maintain safety systems, and apply appropriate practices for safe entry, exit and rescue from confined spaces. VEHICLE OPERATIONS

PMASUP236 - Operate vehicles in the field

This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare and operate vehicles and related equipment to patrol pipelines or otherwise drive across a variety of terrains and applies to operators who are required to check their vehicle daily for damage, ensure fuels and lubricant levels are maintained, effect minor repairs, prepare and maintain field equipment and communicate with their base station.

Typical scenarios can include patrolling areas across a variety of terrains looking for problems that require maintenance or reporting or driving to remote facilities. The vehicle must be checked for mechanical soundness before leaving the base, the operator must ensure it is securely and adequately packed, and make certain their communications equipment and contact schedule are in order and generally prepared for long periods off-road.

The operator would generally be part of a team during field trips but may be required to undertake limited solo trips. At all times they would be liaising and cooperating with their base station. Operators must have the appropriate class of driver’s licence before taking charge of the vehicle.

RIIVEH305F - Operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle

This unit focuses on providing learners with the key skills and knowledge needed to be proficient in operating and maintaining a four-wheel drive vehicle. It is suitable for those working in supervisory and technical specialist roles who are able to work independently with minimal supervision.

The topics covered include: selecting appropriate equipment, services or contingency measures, using discretion and judgement when making decisions, understanding how to identify potential hazards, developing strategies for managing risk, applying safe operational techniques, and troubleshooting common problems. As well as this, learners will also gain an understanding of industry standards, regulations and legislation relevant to their role.

RIIVEH201E - Operate a light vehicle

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a light vehicle in the resources and infrastructure industries, and it applies to those working in operational roles.When operating a light vehicle, you'll generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures. You'll also take responsibility for the quality of your work outcomes.

CONFINED SPACE OPERATIONS

RIIWHS202E - Enter and work in a confined space

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries and applies to those working in operational roles.

You'll learn about the safety protocols, routines, procedures, practices, and ethics associated with working in a confined space. You'll also gain an understanding of how to apply risk management processes when entering a confined space. Under supervision, you'll take responsibility for the quality of your work outcomes.

PUASAR025 - Undertake Confined Space rescue

This unit involves learning the skills needed to respond to rescue operations in confined spaces as part of a single organization or multiple organizations. A confined space isn’t determined by size alone - it’s identified by the hazards associated with a particular set of circumstances. Depending on where you are, a permit may be required to work in these areas. This unit will help equip you with the required skills and knowledge for responding confidently and effectively to emergencies in confined spaces.

MSMWHS217 - Gas Test Atmospheres

This competency covers testing atmospheres using electronic test apparatus, interpreting readings, and taking appropriate actions based on the results. It's perfect for those who may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace.

The unit is suitable for use in the following situations:

  • confined spaces enclosed and partially enclosed spaces hot work storage tanks, silos, pits, pipes, shafts, ducts, transport vehicles and ships testing as part of issuing a work permit monitoring as part of working under a work permit open areas holding the gas tester by hand lowering the gas tester into a space, e.g. on a line.

This unit of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.

MSMWHS216 - Operate Breathing Apparatus

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to do just that, based on the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.

This unit of competency applies to operators who are required to wear breathing apparatus because they are working:

In a confined space with hazardous gases/vapours in an oxygen-deficient atmosphere in other situations requiring the wearing of breathing apparatus.

Operators may also be required to wear breathing apparatus in emergency situations, however, this is not the prime focus of this unit.

This unit of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team or group and working in liaison with other shift team members and the control room operator, as appropriate.

MSMPER200 - Work in accordance with an issued permit

This unit of competency covers everything you need to know when it comes to working in accordance with an issued permit.

The purpose of this unit is to ensure that people who are working under a permit understand the system, know their limitations, and adhere to all requirements of the permit. We want to make sure that everyone who is working in this area remains safe and protected at all times.

By following this competency unit, individuals will learn how to properly interpret and apply the conditions listed on a permit as well as how to conduct risk assessments and identify potential hazards. Additionally, learners will also be able to explain why permits must be used, list specific methods for monitoring safety during work activities, differentiate between emergency and normal permits, determine appropriate actions in response to non-compliance with permit conditions, and more!

FIRST AID AND CPR

HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It covers responding to cardiac and breathing emergencies, using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and providing CPR to adults, children, and infants.

Who is it for?

Anyone who may be required to provide CPR in the workplace, community, or home — including first aiders, employees, parents, carers, fitness professionals, and general members of the public.

Previous qualifications required:

None. This is an entry-level course with no formal prerequisites. Participants must have the physical ability to perform uninterrupted CPR on the floor for at least 2 minutes.

HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to provide first aid response, life support, and management of a range of medical conditions and injuries, in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and other relevant Australian national guidelines. It covers first aid for common emergencies including CPR, bleeding, burns, fractures, asthma, anaphylaxis, and shock.

Who is it for?

Anyone who may be required to provide first aid in the workplace, community, or home — including first aiders, employees, teachers, childcare workers, sports coaches, parents, carers, and general members of the public.

Previous qualifications required:

None. This is an entry-level course with no formal prerequisites. Participants must have the physical ability to perform practical first aid skills, including CPR on the floor for at least 2 minutes.
